The Chinese breach
Databreach are common News, but less usual when it comes from China gouvernement
While the amount of the ransom sounds ridiculous small $200k, the volume of data is at par with the size if the country: 23 terabytes of data, 1 billion person records leaked.
Where the news becomes enigmatic…
1. The announced ramsom amount - the cost of each record is less than 0.02 cent, while data include PII and some biometric
2. The announcement date - database published online 2 years ago for 12 month
3. The details of the records - with a mix of sensitive and very private data
China is collecting massive a amount of data, those leaks expose it to the public. It also highlights once more the dangers of centralized organization and massive data repository.
We can revisit grand’ma adage, “put your data where your values are”!
